Who We Are
Yourgayreno.com is staffed by a team of dedicated volunteers devoted to bringing you the best Reno has to offer in the most user-friendly and interactive way. Yourgayreno.com is the ONLY locally owned information site tailored to the Reno audience.
What We Believe
We believe the real-time, free exchange of ideas is vital to a functioning and integrated community, and though we may disagree on some hot button issues, we are all in this together. Our cutting edge internet-based format allows us the freedom to update information immediately, and the information flows both ways. Free discussion is almost assured on yourgayreno.com, where print-based publications can take weeks or months to provide new information.
What We Do
Directories
Yourgayreno.com’s free business directories are an easy way to find a business that is either gay-owned or gay-friendly. Its faster than digging out your old phone book, and since the directories are online, they are updated as often as needed to stay current.
Community Events Calendar
yourgayreno.com’s events calendar is like nothing else seen in the Reno area before! It is not only the largest LGBTQ events calendar in the region, it is also updated weekly to provide the most accurate, most relevant information to users in an interactive and user editable way. Registered users can post their own events on the site, or submit special events to the editorial board for review and posting.
Reviews
Yourgayreno.com brings you current and in-depth reviews of local businesses, from restaurants to bars to retail shops. Are you looking for the perfect gift, a casual dining experience, or a trendy nightclub? Did you get great service at a local business? The reviews are the place for your voice to be heard, or to get you going on an idea.
Visitors Guide
It’s no secret that people flock to Reno year round to explore our beautiful surroundings or to try their luck in one of our exciting casinos. The visitors guide provides a comprehensive look at Reno, including TAG ® approved lodgings, local hiking trails, our most exciting neighborhoods, and Daytrip Destinations – a blog about all the things there are to do within a one day drive of the Biggest Little City. As always, registered users, be they Renoites or out-of-towners, are encouraged to leave tips and hints about the best way to experience Reno.
Why We Do It
It’s summed up best by Brian Baxter, Executive Director of A Rainbow Place;
“We are all too aware how necessary a cohesive LGBTQ website is for this community, especially those of us from other states and cities... We feel this website will prove to be a great resource for everyone...and we look forward to a wonderful future together in this community."
A little more about us:
Bill Nelson
Co-founder, Site Operations
Bill Nelson is a mild mannered computer scientist working at IGT by day, and a mild mannered website entrepreneur by night. Bill had the thought of starting a website for the gay community in Reno, NV. His thought was to list current and upcoming events. With the help of his partner Sam, and friend Jason, that simple thought exploded into the website you know today.
Being one of the co-founders of yourgayreno.com, Bill oversees the day-to-day operations of the site, manages the contributors and other members of the business. His overall goal is to make the site a valuable resource for the gay community in Reno, NV.
Sam Spencer
Co-founder, Community Relations Liaison
A native of Seattle, Sam Spencer moved to Reno in 2004, following the historic biological American imperative to seek fortune along the Comstock. The scrappy son of community activists and politicians, Sam bills himself as an entrepreneur, artist, and raconteur.
Sam has studied in disparate academic disciplines: from law to architecture; art to archaeology; economics and everything in between; both at Washington State University and Truckee Meadows Community College. These studies have led him to become a student of the world, more than a declared major in any one academic field.
His absolute favorite movie of all time is Julie Taymors adaptation of Titus, and if you ask him (and buy him a drink), hell tell you why.
Jason Reid
Events and Nightlife Editor
Jason Reid, your Events/Nightlife Editor for yourgayreno.com is one of the rare natives to Reno. Loving Reno with all his heart, he moved away for awhile to live in Seattle, deciding that “big city life” wasn’t for him he came back to “The Biggest Little City” with a new found passion for it. Always immersed in the gay culture of this town,
Jason Reid is fond of art, concerts, fedoras, parties, bars, a good martini, and good company! Jason Reid however is not fond of Reese Witherspoon, Britney Spears, and anchovies.
