T-0—0425A—

The echo of the shot rang out a half-second behind Jake‘s
sudden gasp and drop to the pavement. Gavin hissed a curse as he spun into a crouch and threw himself to the
side, hoping that the large shipping container would provide him with some
cover. The slapping smack of bullets
impacting on the metal side of the container agonizingly close made him twitch
as he pulled his phone from inside his coat pocket with his left hand while
filling his right with the slim, black matte of a glock pistol.

Ne-Yo - Year of the Gentlemen
I fell in love with Ne-You when I heard his first single So Sick off his first album In My Own Words. His third album Year of the Gentlemen is full of tight melodies and beats about love, loss and sex. This album was produced by three time Grammy winner L.A. Reid who has produced for Usher, Pink, Kanye West, Melissa Etheridge and Rihanna.
The first single off this album was “Closer”. It is one of the more upbeat songs on the album. “Miss Independent” and “Mad” have been getting a lot of air play on the radio as well. Not only does Ne-Yo have a sexy voice he is sexy.

Does An Apple a Day Keep the Doctor Away?

By: Dr. Ken Romeo, Ph.D., M.D., A.M.

Yes! But only if you throw it at him. And the dentist too.

The dangers of excess sugar consumption are well documented. Excessive sugar consumption is believed to be involved in many common health problems such as diabetes, heart disease, high cholesterol, obesity, indigestion, myopia, seborrheic dermatitis, gout, lack of concentration, hyperactivity, depression and anxiety. I could go on, but you get the idea.

Is eating a single apple bad for you? Probably not. That is because of the polyphenols that are found in apples. Polyphenols were once known as Vitamin P. However, they were quickly found out to be non-essential and reclassified. The health benefits of specific polyphenols, such as quercetin are well-established, and there are less well-established claims of health benefits from all types of polyphenols. Research indicates that polyphenols may have antioxidant characteristics with potential health benefits. So why am I picking on apples?

The Libra Birthday Extravaganza, produced by Champagne and Bacon Productions and benefiting the Black Rock Arts Foundation, took place Friday, September 26 at Neutron Nightclub on Kietzke Lane. Appearances were made by BoHoBurlesque - a risqué dance troupe, as well as countless burners, and entertainment was provided by a bevy of amazing DJs.

All the freaks and sluts came out to raise money for one of the only good things to come out of Burning Man: the art.

While attendance at this years event was slim compared to years past, the unity and emotion that filled Harrah’s Grand Ballroom was just as impressive. Says Eddie Reynoso, "We've had more positive response for this years Ball" than in the past. Tom Henkenius from Channel 2 – KTVN returned as emcee, with The Black and White Ball Committee President Jack Owens assisting with those duties.

Episode Ten

Pas de deux

By: Chris Eisele
October 5, 2008

Gavin rolled across his massive bed and slapped the alarm clock to make it cease its incessant beeping. He stretched a moment and then sat up in bed before standing up and walking to the master bathroom. Though Gavin preferred to sleep naked, he was also past the point of caring if anyone saw him. Anyone who had managed to pierce this deeply into his sanctum deserved a little thrill, anyway.

His mouth felt like something furry had climbed in and died. Gavin blinked at himself in the mirror and winced. His muscles ached from the fight. A long scrape from where he’d hit the pavement ditching his motorcycle stretched along his side from armpit to his waist. There was a bruise on his left elbow from where he’d blocked the pipe. His hair, however, was a messy perfection. He gave himself a sleepy grin.

“Yes,” he said, “I’d totally do me, right now.”

Ashlee Stone… When Boys Became Super Models

By: Eddie Reynoso
September 27, 2008

As a gay male, I am always astonished how in our own culture  we perceive our own levels, ranks, and societal norms. We label ourselves as a community that strives for inclusiveness, while excluding some simply because they do not meet our definition of sexy or hot. Among those communities is the drag community, which most perceive as queens that are considered "passable" as just another bizarrely-costumed, diva-tempered male version of Naomi Campbell. The truth is that by this definition we are all one wig away from the gender-bending behavior many look down upon. It is also by this definition that we can define others as 'drag queens' - whether they are the narcissistic gym boi dressed all-out in Abercrombie & Fitch that believes he is the one everyone is lusting for, or the Leather Daddy that insists on inviting you to his dungeon where you will submissively satisfy his ultimate fantasy.

9 Things Every Gay Man Should Discuss With His Doctor

By: Dr. Ken Romeo, Ph.D., MD(AM)
September 9, 2008

While there are many more items that could have easily made my list of important topics for gay men to discuss with their doctor, I have found these to be the most important issues in my particular practice. While not all of these items apply to everyone, it’s a wise idea to be aware of these issues.

1. HIV/AIDS and Safe Sex

Episode Nine

The War of the Roses

By: Chris Eisele
September 5, 2008

The go-go boy was winking from where he gyrated on the stage a few yards away. It was easy to see, with a tilt of the head, the admiring glances of the men who cut through the thin crowd like sharks looking for prey. Even the bartender gave a sly, knowing smirk as he placed a drink on a cocktail napkin. When an anonymous hand managed to “accidentally” brush against him in a place usually reserved for swimsuits, it was official.

Detective Craig Masters could pass in a gay bar.

After Pride Party at the Lake Mansion

a special event review

The Lake Mansion all lit up, like the people inside
yourgayreno.com

While yourgayreno.com may not always be able to cover every special event and party, the After Pride Party at the Lake Mansion deserves special attention considering the general opinion of he 4th Annual White Party. Once again, Brian Aranda and Ashlee B. Stone aimed high with their production standards, and it seems – this time - they successfully executed their shared vision.

Motherly Love

What it is like for me to be a Lesbian Mom

By: Andrea McAlpine
August 18, 2008

Motherly Love
By: Andrea McAlpine

I'd like to tell you that being a mom is fun and easy and maybe in a “normal” world it might be. In my world, your world, it isn't like that at all. I am a single, lesbian woman with children. I didn't always identify myself as a lesbian, nor did I always identify myself as single.
It has been a long, hard life and I am only 29 years old. I was asked to talk about this topic, but please be aware that I will not be sugar coating anything and if at any time you have had enough, please put this down and continue with your daily activities.

We at yourgayreno stive to bring you the most accurate information available, but we occasionally report something later proven untrue. When this is brought to our attention, we make every effort to make it right.

1) In a recent podcast and article about the 4th Annual White Party, we misstated the amount of money raised to the ReNO AIDS Community Task Force. The actual amount was $2300. Our apologies to the ReNO AIDS Community Task Force, Brian Aranda, Ashlee B. Stone, and everyone involved in the 4th Annual White Party.

Supermarket Self-Defense

yourgayreno's NEW monthly health column

By: Dr. Ken Romeo, Ph.D., MD (AM)
August 11, 2008

If you are interested in health, then you probably know the fruits and vegetables section of your local supermarket like the back of your hand. But be careful. The colorful stickers that are placed on your produce purchases will tell you more than you think. That’s right, they’re not just a code for the supermarket clerk to punch into the register to let you know what the price of the product is.

Open Letter from A Rainbow Place’s Executive Director to the metro Reno/Sparks LGBTQ community.

Brian Baxter invites all to visit ARP

By: Brian Baxter
August 10, 2008

A community center can be many things to many people. Before moving to Reno, my local LGBTQ community center was where I met my dearest friends, found support in our struggles for respect and fair treatment and gathered with others to rally and strengthen our resolve. It’s where I sat with movie stars, politicians and media bigwigs to discuss U.S. Supreme Court issues. It’s where I danced when I didn’t want the bar scene. This was also where all the information sources were.

The Perfection of Imperfection

By: Tiffany Mayorga
August 3, 2008

What a beautiful mess. The canvas must have been the length and width of two adults standing on each other, it towered over me, commanding attention. Colors thrown, various heights of texture rose and fell, no consistency, but it radiated such powerful energy. I stepped closer to it, examining this soul's expression. I love that color, ocean blue, so vibrant and calming at the same time, a contradiction; overlapping was a stop sign red, another contradiction, existing in harmony.
