I would like to personally thank everyone who came out on saturday night for the Vigil Against Proposition 8, but I cannot. The turnout was so incredible, that I will have to thank the internet, and hope that my heartfelt thank-yous make it to the proper ears.
The rally at City Plaza was spectacular! We, as a community, came together out of anger and indignation, but proved that our disgust over proposition 8's passing could, and must, be non violent. Our voices mingled together in the Reno night, sending the bigotry and hate that passed Prop 8 in the first place into hiding. Hate will not march down our streets. On saturday night, love reigned supreme.
The impassioned words of the speakers, the unanimous declaration of the crowd that we will not stand, will not consent to our rights being taken away, and the powerful march to the arch all proved, in my mind, at least, that now is our time. One one night, we stood united with hate as our only enemy.
On a personal note, it was always my dream to get married in a small ceremony, with close family and friends present. Well, thanks to Rev. Dalton, I almost got my wish... Bill and I, along with many other couples who did not travel to California, were married in front of 500 of our family members, 500 of our closest friends. And while my clothing choices were not quite wedding-ready, i could not ask for a more meaningful, beautiful ceremony. I thank everyone who was at city plaza on that symbolic night, where at the base of city hall, we showed that our rights as humans have nothing to do with our sexuality, but just our love.
Yes, the rally was inspiring, but what are YOU gonna do with that inspiration? In the coming days, all the Prop 8 stories will be added to a special, permanent tab on this website, as will a "Volunteering" tab. This will show you where you can focus your efforts to change this country. Let no one tell that Now is not that time, and never say, "I didn't know where to get the information." YourGayReno will soon have spaces for all the community organizations that need your help to make our dreams of equality a reality - to make our fight something we tell our grandkids about.
Also, I KNOW there were cameras at the rally, and YGR wants your pics, vids, and soundbytes. All of them. Links to your Flickr account, YouTube URLS, anything. If you have small files (50 or less pics, 5 or less minutes of video), please email them to info@yourgayreno.com. If your media will occupy more space than my inbox, please send them on a CD to YourGayReno, 316 California Ave, #433, Reno 89509. The more we get, the better it will be.
Again, I cannot say it enough, but thank you to everyone who came to the Rally and Vigil. It was an awe inspiring event because YOU came. It was awe inspiring because you brought your friends. Someday, when we all stick around Reno for a couple decades, you can say "I was there when we united against bigotry and stood up for our rights across the world. In Reno, in San Francisco, in Seattle and New York. Across the world ... our voices united together by love. I was there."
Now if you'll excuse me, I have to get back to my cliche Vegas honeymoon.

Sounds great...
I wanted to use my sound system but wasn't sure we would have electricity or the time. Next time I WILL so they can hear us in Sparks!
But to the credit of the attendees YOU the citizens of Reno and Nevada were heard LOUD and CLEAR!!!!

that was awesome to say the least.
All I can say that could have been improved is better sound to do the speeches through, but I am a sound queen, so of course I'll say that.
But in all seriousness I was struggling to hear over the honks and screams, and I wasn't that far away from the speakers.
