Gay Pride

Gay Pride will be held at Wingfield Park on August 16th.

Is yourgayreno.com going to participate in the parade? Or can we at least make up flyers to
pass out during the parade? If we are going to have some people representing us in the
parade, we should start thinking of ways to make it impressive and memorable. Let's not
deny the world our general awesomeness! (Uh...I have an unhealthy addiction to the
word 'awesome'.) ~Skylla~

--If we are going to discuss this, maybe we should move over to the 'organization'
or 'general discussion' forum.--

We are thinking of what we want to do, maybe get a booth at the festivities or being in the parade is a great idea. When we get closer to finalizing some thoughts I am sure we will have a meeting and anyone who has some great ideas and would like to help are more than welcome to come to the meeting to share!

As of right now, we are thinking of getting a booth. It will be a couple hundred dollars for the space, tent, table and chairs. I think that Roger is on board and will be broadcasting live from the booth and you can do shout-outs live.

I think that being in the parade is a great idea. I will find out more information when the Reno Gay Pride website is updated.

Stay tuned.

Will we be asking site members for contributions, asking businesses for sponsorship, or coming
up with ideas for a fundraiser? I think maybe a combination of sponsorships and a fundraising
party would be very effective. I guess we can always talk this over if we have a meeting to plan
our parade participation and booth ideas. ~~Skylla~~

And by the way, I would love to be a booth wench if you're looking for volunteers!!

I think that is a great idea. We will plan a meeting some time in the future to discuss all this.

Another idea would be to collaborate with an existing agency to share a booth/space. We can accomplish great strides when we share resources. Im sure The ReNO AIDS Community Task Force would be willing to pay for the booth space at our discounted rate in exchange for someone handing out our literature. It would save our group a lot of man hours and save us from having to juggle multiple events that weekend. Just an idea though.

What about a super mega-booth (two booths next to each other) We could take turns staffing it or whatnot. One booth would be far too crowded, I think, with all the literature we will both have. Any thoughts?

Have you considered talking to the folks at A Rainbow Place? They usually take 2-3 booth spaces for Pride, and have shared that space in the past. Knowing you are primarily an LGBTQ business...it seems the perfect fit. They have two canopies, many chairs and tables...and minimal to no cost to who they share with.

Just a thought.

I think that most definately a meeting is in order we are getting some great ideas and support here! Thank you everyone for being so passionate!

Hello to ALL here in FAB GAY Reno, Nirvana :

We would like to introduce ourselves. I'm Eric (46) my partner is Keith (37). We moved here a little over a year ago from S. California and we LOVE Reno!! We would both like to get involved with the community any way we can! My partner Keith is Senior promotional Editor for an international television network and keeps very busy but would love to be involved in his free time.

I, Eric, on the other hand am a freelance DJ. I have done some public and private events since moving here for which I am thankful! But am looking to do much more!

So I ask How can I help you Reno? You're probably asking who the hell are you?

WELL......

Where am I coming from?
It all started with my schooling / work in video production in 1982 in Hollywood then S.F.,then working with Gay Cable Network in NYC, N.Y. then in Indiana....
I chaired the very first 2 public GAY pride events for the state Indiana back in 1990 / 91, have been an GAY / AIDS activist since the mid 80s but have been semi retired activist since the mid 90s. I launched my career in music i.e. Karaoke host / singer / dance music DJ / sound tech in late 2001. Met my life partner in May 2002. Moved to California that same year. Hosted karaoke shows in Palm Springs (Twisters bar, Heaven Night club, and many private events, parties, weddings, even a 7-11 convention for 700 people) and Santa Monica (The Golden Bull lounge) and was sound tech for such performers as Irene Soderberg, Varla Gene Merman and many many more! I have even been known to do an Elton John tribute! Keith and I are experienced, honest, helpful, fearless, polite, non pretentious, full of ideas, and chutzpah! We enjoy life, meeting people, making friends, networking and love to have FUN!

What do I have?
I have my own state of the art sound system with 20,000 karaoke songs and 3 months of dance / party music spanning the 1920s to current. With the recent purchase of an 1987 Ambulance now known as Janice the JAM WAGON we are now TOTALLY mobile and self contained.

What have I done locally so far?
This past year I did a private birthday party for a local radio personality. A senior Idol contest for Orvis Ring Retirement Center.
SKDJAM (Sound Karaoke DJ And Multimedia) even donated a free music event for the reopening of La Bussola upon there return to First Street last fall!
It was also the premier of Janice the JAM WAGON!

What would I like to offer?
With the above readers digest resume I am available to work with the organizers of The Reno Pride, The A.I.D.S. WALK and any other group or businesses whom might be interested in my services. I am willing to donate my time to help with not for profit fund raising, public awareness, and the overall improvement of an all ready very proud Reno community!! I am also open for hire for any business, individuals public and private events in need of my professional SKDJAM services!

Thank you in advance for your time and consideration! Quoting the Beatles "I hope we pass the audition"! LOL!

Yours for a song,

We will be getting together soon to have a meeting to plan a Gay Pride meeting among other events and what nots. Once we have all that finalized we will let everyone know when and where the meeting will be held. We would love for everyone to come and share their thoughts and feelings on Reno Gay Pride. Thank you everyone for being so supportive and proactive!
