Tronix

Dive bar gone fiesta central!
An environment rivaling the streets of Mardi Gras
No need for gender signs on these bathrooms, but present for the sake of motif.
Upon entering this divine alternate universe of cirque du soleil (or is that cirque du sogay?), your immediately required to rub your eyes—is it me or is there a haze of sex dangling deliciously in the air?!

Upon entering Tronix, you are engulfed with the thumping bass rivaling the playa at Burning Man. Your heart races and you begin to salivate—cocktails. Now.
The bartenders bring you an exceptional concoction. Tronix showcases video screens throughout the bar and dance floor, which (may we add) is almost always packed thanks to D.J. Fredo and D.J. Little k. Whether you kick the party off at this glorious location or spin into the early morning light with the phenomenal music, this is clearly where you’ll end up at one point on Saturday night.

Tip. Tronix isn’t just a hotspot on the weekends; they’re also hosting Reno’s drag king troupe “The Little City Kings.” Also, be sure to check out karaoke Wednesdays starting at 9pm.

The music is okay, and the bartenders are generous, making drinks that are guaranteed to mess you up; however that is where it ends. For the most part the patrons are clique like and can be really rude to you if you are not a part of their group, but I guess that is to be expected when you have a room full of twentysometings plastics.
On the other hand, I have had a few great nights of dancing and making a fool out of myself, so it can balance out.

Last night, after not going out for the past month, Tronix was amazing. Great music, good people, and great drinks. Proving, yet again, that it is the best gay club in Reno to date.

Okay, the entire first paragraph of this review would be blatant false advertising if not for the surreality of its nature. It sort of makes you wonder if the writer- or in this credited case, co-writers- were at home, drunk at the keyboard. To use "divine" to describe Tronix shows either ignorance, or vacuous lack of true taste. Personally, I would say "over-zealous." This is exactly why the gay bars/club in Reno never improve- the owners are thrown undeserved praise. All of the other reviews were fair, and consise. Yet, I came to this one and assumed that this was when those five martinis which decorated its rating started to kick in. A review is supposed to be impartial, not overly in favor of an option simply because of its popularity. You don't see the Zagat Guide blessing potato chips when assessing snack foods, because there are other more tantalizing options.

Granted, while it is the most popular bar, its not the best bar. Tronix is more like that little sister who puts on her big sisters clothes. Instead of coming up fabulous, she ends up looking like a cheap slut. Sure, it's fun for a night- but it gets tiring... fast. I've had friends from out of town visiting from Reno-like metro areas, and even they showed disdain for Tronix. The number one complaint was its "atmosphere", of which it has none of any real substance. I have to admit, they loved 5 Star.

We'll see what Reno has to offer in five years, hopefully that praise can be justly awarded to a REAL gay club with an element no one can complain about. So far, the best gay experience one can have in Reno is 210 North on Thursday nights with great music and semi-decent atmosphere. Seriously. For now though, with the exception of 5 Star and yes, even Tronix on SOME nights, my favorite gay establishment in Reno is Badlands in Sacramento.

Really, I'm not bitter... but it sure is fun to write like I am.

First off I'm just wondering if the person that posted all this "5 Martinis" Bull got paid to do so!! Tronix is the worst place you can go out to!! And where to start this off at?? Wow! Ok.. let me see if I can keep up with everything:

1. First off, upon entering Tronix, you DO NOT feel a haze of sex dangling in the air! As soon as you walk in, you are walking into a pretty ghetto place to party in. The bathrooms are always with doors wide open where both men and women can look in there, though. They can't see your business.. it's still an uncomfortable scenario. In the couple of times that I was in there they had many underaged people hiding in the back, running around pretending to be gangsters and wanting to pick fights, very little seating available, and most of the seating was torn with wably tables!!

2. Sure! The music is GREAT in there!! But is it worth it when you have rude personnell working there?? Ofcourse not! Don't just take my word for it... I know many, but I mean MANY people in Reno that say the same thing about that place. Especially about the girl that charges at the door and the security guard, Scott! I mean.. like I said.. many people say the same thing.. ask around.. and find out for yourselves. The security guard is always thinking he's the bomb, he can kick anyone out with his power-trips, and thinks people always have to do as he says. Hell.. even one time that I was in there with friends we were standing getting ready to dance and he told us not to just stand around, because people were there to dance.. and if we stopped "traffic" he would get us kicked out!

Is it just me ... or is that not wrong? I mean I always see people standing around before or even after they dance! And no other place in Reno has done that! Now about the girl at the door charging ... I've heard (and seen it myself) from different people that she also has power-trips because she gets along with the security there.. and that she'll have anyone kicked out at her own will if she wishes it!

3. Word is all over Reno as to how Tronix is having major problems. Apparently someone called secret witnesses and stated that Tronix has underaged people in there drinking. Who did that?? I do not know! It could have been anyone.... especially given the fact that they're in the "not very well liked" status by so many individuals. Personally (even though I don't like Tronix), I think that's a very fucked up thing to do. Especially because so many other clubs have done the same. But moving on now.....

Now it doesn't take a rocket scientist to know someone is underage. The couple of times I was in there I'm sure I saw underaged people in there, hiding in the back, drinking, and easily starting problems with older people. So not to be throwing all this stuff that is know about them.. but my point is, who on earth 21+ wants to be in a club where there are kids running around starting trouble, for a night out?

And you know.... from what's been said about this matter... they have undercover agents in there all the time. Now.. for undercover agents to go in there all the time you know there's something up! And that is not very convenient for many 21+ people.. because you know.. not every one is perfect and may owe tickets, be on probation, etc. So at any time.. any people going out to Tronix under these circumstances are going to end up arrested and in trouble. Many things could happen.. you could get in a fight and then arrested by these undercover agents they have in there in and out.

So yeah.. not a very convenient place to go to!

BOTTOM LINE ABOUT TRONIX:

It's ghetto in there with very limited seating, torn seats, wably tables, inconvenient bathrooms, and really bad personnell! The only thing good to Tronix is the good music! But hell... after everything I've gone thru and knowing how many people agree with me in so many levels me nor my friends will ever go there!! Go at your own RISK!!!!

I can safely say that our reviews are NEVER paid for (though sometimes I wish they were...) Experiences are different for everybody, and your feedback is appreciated! I know it will help others make up their mind on where to club.

FOR SETH AARONS- DON'T JUST START TELLING PEOPLE THEY'RE NOT WELL EDUCATED BECAUSE THEY USE SOME CERTAIN WORDS IN REPETITION. EACH IS HIS OWN. I MEAN.. BECAUSE I'M USING ALL CAPITALS IN THIS- IT DOESN'T MEAN I'M NOT WELL EDUCATED.

SO PLEASE, IF THE COMMENT WASN'T IN REGARDS TO YOU, DON'T SAY ANYTHING AT ALL. I'M REPLYING TO YOU BECAUSE I BELIEVE YOU HAVE NO RIGHT TO CALL PEOPLE UNEDUCATED. BUT NO HARD FEELINGS... LET'S JUST NOT START THE DRAMA, OK?

ABOUT MY OPINION, AFTER READING THE ARTICLE/RATING ON TRONIX, YOU CAN BELIEVE I MOST CERTAINLY DISAGREE. LET'S BE LOGICAL, BECAUSE I STRONGLY AGREE WITH "LILBILL" AND "SETH-AARONS", IN REGARDS TO THEIR OPINION ABOUT TRONIX. I MEAN THE PLACE -IS- A MESS. YOU'LL WALK IN AND THERE'S LIKE NOWHERE TO SIT AND THE SEATS ARE TORN. THE BATHROON -ISN'T- CONVENIENT BECAUSE OF THE OPEN DOORS. AND YES, I HAVE SEEN MANY UNDERAGED KIDS IN THERE JUST STARTING TROUBLE WITH WHOEVER PASSES THEIR WAY.

NOT JUST THAT, BUT THE STAFF IS RUDE. EXTREMELY RUDE, ACTUALLY! I'M NOT GOING TO GO INTO DETAILS ABOUT THAT. BUT BELIEVE ME, THEY ARE RUDE AND THEY NEED TO CHANGE THEIR ATTITUDE!

I GAVE THAT PLACE THREE CHANCES, NEVER SAW ANY IMPROVEMENTS, AND NOTHING GOT BETTER! SO I STOPPED GOING THERE! SO FOR ALL YOU PEOPLE THAT JUST LOVE TRONIX, GIVE ME A BREAK! THERE'S BETTER PLACES TO GO TO AND FOR THE SAME COVER FEE.

FOR INSTANCE, LATELY I'VE BEEN GOING TO VINOS. I MEAN AT ONE POINT THEY WERE VINOS, THEN CLUB CARNIVAL, THEN VINOS AGAIN. BUT IF YOU WANT FRIENDLY STAFF, A TOP NOTCH ENVIROMENT EXPERIENCE, VINOS IS THE PLACE TO GO!

I WOULD ALSO RECOMMEND NEUTRON (IRONIC- SINCE NEUTRON HAS THE SAME OWNER TO TRONIX). EVEN THOUGH, NEUTRON AND TRONIX HAVE THE SAME OWNER, I RECOMMEND NEUTRON BECAUSE THE STAFF IS FRIENDLIER AND MORE SOCIAL. BUT IF YOU REALLY WANT TO HIT NEUTRON IN A GOOD NIGHT, GO THURSDAY NIGHTS WHEN THEY HAVE THE LATIN NIGHT GOING ON!! THAT'S ALOT OF FUN!

BUT THE ONLY BAD THING TO THURSDAY NIGHT (APPARENTLY RECENTLY TURNED INTO SATURDAY NIGHT ASWELL) IS THAT THEY HAVE A DRAG QUEEN SHOW THAT KEEPS INTERRUPTING PEOPLE FROM HAVING FUN. THAT'S BECAUSE THEY'LL CALL THE SHOW LIKE 3 TIMES A NIGHT AND EACH SHOW WILL LAST 30+ MINUTES! NOT TO MENTION THAT WHEN THE SHOW'S GOING ON THEY TAKE OVER THE WHOLE DANCE FLOOR AND THE MUSIC!:(

SO THAT'S JUST MY OPINION ABOUT TRONIX AND PERSONAL SUGGESTIONS OF WHERE THE GAY COMMUNITY SHOULD GO TO HAVE FUN AND MAKE THE MOST OF THEIR MONEY.

BY THE WAY, FORGOT TO MENTIONT THAT VINOS (IE. CLUB CARNIVAL) HAS A FREE COVER FROM 10-11PM!!

Wow

I'm not one who goes out AT ALL - but I had the chance to go to Tronix a few weeks ago with my boyfriend as that's where his friends hang out. I didn't think it was 'that bad'... again, I have nothing to really compare it to as I don't go anywhere LOL

I do want to say something about the woman at the door - she can be crass, she can have an attitude, but she is by FAR one of the nicest, funniest woman I have met here in Reno.... and did she ask for my phone number? Did she ask anyone around me for their phone number? uh, yeah - email address too ... all for a little coupon that gives you a discount on your drinks! ... I have no issue with that!

And although I know none of you all personally enough to say 'uneducated'.... I think it says something in and of itself when an insult is thrown at a complete stranger.

I am a straight girl that works at a gay bar. All my best friends are gay. I am in no way a lesbian, yes women are beautiful and I have made out with a few but it does not mean that I am a lesbian. "sexy_male" I am the girl that you called a nasty whore. I work the front door at Tronix. The only way that the staff would be mean to you is if you were trying to get into our bar underage or because you were being rude. All of us that work at Tronix work really hard to keep it a nice, safe place to hang out. I have always been nice to anyone that comes through my door. Do you know how hard it is to work the door at a club? Have you done this? We have people that come up to us and treat us like garbage. We are called all sort of names and degraded in front of a lot of people. We deal with all the drunk people that throw up and piss all over everthing. We call the cabs for people that are to drunk to handle a phone. When you need our help we will do everything in our power to help you. I think its rude to call someone a whore when you dont even know them. And by the way the manager is a female. The security guard that we have is quite nice. He is fair to everyone. If you have been here "three times" you would know this. You might have come in once and made a poor judgement on the place. Tronix is kinda thrashy but people do come back and hang out. We are here for the gay community. Support us and we will support you.

While everyone is entitled to their own personal opinions on anything on this site, and it is encouraged for all to leave their comments, this section is about individual interpretations of Tronix Video Music Club, not personal attacks. Consequently, this thread will be moved to the FORUMS, to give everyone a chance to respond to whatever personal attacks have been levied against them.

If you have a genuine impression of Tronix, please leave your comment here.

Also, please review your user agreement, and make sure you are staying within its guidelines. It would completely suck if we had to start editing libel out of the posts

Thanks

We know how the gay community thrives on drama... I think you might find that the forum section might soon become the most popular feature on this site! Keep up the good work, and thank you once again for allowing us another venue for a voice in the community- even if not popular or agreed with. Speaking up and standing out always has to be respected, even if the voice you hear and the image you see isn't always your own.

Trionix is THE worst "nightclub" I have been to. First of all, the five dollar cover they charge there is WAY overpriced, not to mention illegal. By law, if there is gaming (i.e the video poker machines on the bar) within the confines of an establishment, no cover charge can be implemented. Whoever owns this dump of a BAR (NOT nightclub) needs to wisen up, or I might just have to make a call to the Nevada Stae Gaming Board and have either their liquor or gaming license revoked. So sad, I moved here from southern Nevada thinking it couldn't be any worse up here. Boy I was wrong, and now I see why EVERYONE makes fun of Reno's gay community. It's a joke. The truth is, there are NO gay CLUBS in Reno, just a handful of gay BARS. I'm sure if there were a legitimate gay club in Reno the decent folks would be there and not in the dumps they have posing as such. Thank God Reno is close enough to San Francisco. I don't think I'll EVER be going out to another gay establishment in Reno until a real place opens its doors.

BartenderVonnie's picture

Hi Zin.

I'm sorry you had such a bad initial experience at Tronix.
However, just so you and the public know, if a person is coming into Tronix with the sole purpose of gambling there is no cover charge. If this person is not gambling then they are asked to pay the $5 to enjoy the nightclub. We are not doing anything illegal in terms of our cover charge; and threats such as those you posed are what is actually illegal.
Also, a $5 cover for an establishment is a bargain, especially is you from southern Nevada as you claim, where locations such as the gay club Piranha have a cover charge of $20.
You may make fun of our gay community, Zin, but you are a part of it now. Please do your part in adding to the growth of our community, rather than try to bring down our moral. Come down to the bar again this weekend, bring a new attitude, and your first drink is on me.

Thanks!

Zin's picture

It's not illegal to blow the whistle on suspected illegal activity. Also, once a patron passes the threshold using the gambling loophole and puts the minimum betting wager into the slot device, the commitment to pay the five dollar cover (or ANY cover for that matter) is waived. That's a legal fact. The Buffalo bar in Las Vegas tried this and was forced to discontinue, or lose their gaming license.

Speaking of, The Buffalo is a GREAT bar and experience... and they're free to get into! Also Piranha-8 1/2 and Krave are FREE for locals with an ID. BOTH establishments are a million times better of an experience than anything Reno has. I am a "part" of the gay community here, but that doesn't mean it doesn't mean I can't be upset that it is what it sadly is. Why should I feel good? It's like feeling good about being homeless.

That said, I can't take an offer of free drinks. I'll stick by my word and standing. Tronix needs a change before my feet wander inside. It's not up for me to change to make everyone happy. As a bussiness, it's up to Tronix to change and make not only me, but US happy.

For your information hun we have kicked out all the underagers that we personally know of. If they have gotten in it means that they either have a really good id or because they snuck in. I have not let in any of my underager friends. Not that i have many left but its true. We have tried to catch everyone that comes in. And it doesnt help that over 21 people give wristbands to thier underage friends. And if i was bitchy to you I'm sorry, people have their days right? :)
As for Zin I understand your dissapointment in Tronix. Coming from Las Vegas who wouldnt be? But like i have said before we are Reno. Its ONLY a five dollar cover charge and not something outrageous that the people of Reno cant afford. I would like to know what else made it the worst club in reno in your eyes. We would like the feedback so we can try to fix things. We apologize for the shitty time you had and I do hope you come back and try again. Let us know whats on your mind zin. :)

Zin's picture

You were actually one of the highlights of the night! Your welcoming smile at the door made some of the bitterness melt away. I do NOT hold any of the staff accountable for all that is bad with Tronix, because ultimately they are not responsible for the image. I found that the entire staff was courteous and quick to respond. What I didn't like most, and the thing that hurts image is exactly that: YOUR IMAGE. I know you can't and shouldn't really control who frequents the bar, but the decor is an embarassment. Tronix bascially looks run-down, and it's not only me that thinks that. Even the fact that it's in a strip mall wouldn't hurt, if the owner made it worth it. Repaint the place, cover the windows looking in, move that ill-placed dancefloor. The list goes on... Trust me, visually I know how a proper club should look to attract attention and acclaim. I worked for The Light Group in Las Vegas for three years. Anything you need help with, ask me, I wouldn't hesitate to help your image!

I've been there only a few times, and your critiques are dead-on, and stated in a non-bitchy fashion. Some of the responses to the various bar/club reviews make the boys around here sound like a bunch of catty bitches, and your even-tempered, classy response is a breath or fresh air. And your offer to help them work on fixing the place up helps redeem our whole community. Let's build each other us, instead of tearing each other down!

i barely remember that time I went to the back and you were walking to the parking lot. If that was you then i did kick you out because you had a false id. That is the only reason any of us would be "mean" or "bitchy" to you. Are you sure you and your friends arent the underagers that sneek in and "thrash" the place and start fights like you said?

I congratulate the folks who can keep this thread related to Tronix, as they seem to understand that this is a BAR REVIEW SECTION. However, THIS IS THE FINAL WARNING. I dont really understand why I'm being attacked by someone i dont even know. All i have ever said has had to do with Tronix, and the underagers and some freaking cover charges. I have never tried to attack one single person. Sure sexymale and I have had some words but I have tried to be nice and courteous. I'm trying to be professional. I wanted feedback on my place of employment not on who i am as a person. I have my friends. And yes I am fat! Get over it! I'm comfortable with who I am! Do you think i havent heard that before? I know how to live my life.
Sexymale i apologize for calling you uderage. There was a similar thing that happened about the same time. You are not the person we had problems with. Robert williams do you even know me? And Zin thank you for the feedback. Thats what Tronix needs, people with helpful feedback. I can try talking to my manager and the owner and see what we can do.

Zin's picture

I need to give this girl a "You go girl!" or a hug! You are seriously a strong and intelligent woman. You can obviously take criticism, even when not warranted or blatanly untrue. You are exactly the type of person for customer service, and the ONLY reason I would consider going back to Tronix. You NEVER have to apologize for having an opinion, even when under harsh fire. Keep up the good work. You're doing an AMAZING job so far!

Read all the comments and so far it seems that almost everyone is against this place. Well so am I!

This is a comment to let everyone know I did not go through a good experience there. My only problem is the staff! I loved the music!!! The look of the place was so ugly.. but to me that's not that important. Because it's Reno we're talking about, anyways.

Hopefully the owner reads this because he needs to know what kind of staff he has! I was there with two of my girlfriends (by the way we're all straight girls) and so we're like dancing. And then this one guy just randomly pushes this one girl and all I said was, "don't push her", so he kept doing it. Then I finally warned him I'd go tell security.

As I was walking away to let security know, he follows me and like pushes me so hard, that he makes me fall to the ground. He was really fucking drunk. Like totally drunk!

So I like get up and push him back. Then the pussy went to tell the security guy that I had pushed him. So the first thing that security guy did was to act all thugish and walk towards me, like totally grabs me by my arm and pushes me out of the place! So not cool!

Then I preceded to explain to him what had happened, but apparently he didn't wanna hear it! That so totally like sucked! I personally think that when they get a random complaint from a drunk guy (keep in mind I wasn't at that guy's level of alcohol in my system), they should try and like get both sides of the story. Well my efforts to try and explain to that jerk what had happened were useless!

That's not it! Right after having been kicked out some lesbian girls came out and were talking to the security guy, and apparently knew him. So after those girls noticed that I was trying to explain what had happened they were giving me orders to leave. And the security guard let it happen! They were saying things like, "nah! you heard what the man had to say! You gotta go!"

So I was like out of it! I couldn't like believe what had just happened to me! So to my surprise after I began walking away those girls were following me and humiliating me by calling me a fat bitch and free willy and that I gotta do what the authority says what I gotta do. They even threatened me that if I didn't get out of there them and all their friend were going to "fuck me up". So I left, but I waited by my friend's car. Since they were my ride.

So while I was like waiting by my friend's car I'm like texting her to come out, right? Well I could see the guy that pushed me, the lesbian girls, and the security guy all hanging out and laughing. So the security did all of that out of preference! So like totally fucked up! And then like the lesbians were waving at me and fliping me off and acting like gangser dudes!

That place is dangerous. I'm never ever going there again! Someone could get hurt by that security guys' friends and he probably won't even do anything about it. Like I mean.. his friend pushed me and he probably knew it and didn't do anything about it.

So the owner should be aware of this. No wonder most of the weekends I drive by it's not as busy like it used to be! Like I work at the Nugget and I drive through Kietzke Lane to get back home and on like almost all the weekends I've driven by there it's so dead!
