MEDIA ALERT
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Reno, NV July 14, 2010 – Build Our Center (BOC), Inc. announces its plans to host Reno’s first Green Pride parade on Saturday, August 14 at 10 am through the downtown River Walk area. The BOC board decided to host the parade after it was announced there would be no Pride parade to celebrate the gay community again in 2010. We saw a need to provide a Parade and FREE event for the GLBTQ Community here in Reno.,” Sam Olson, President of BOC said. “A Parade has historic significance to our community and the lack of a parade the last two years has affected the way our community comes together and celebrates their diversity. We are excited to bring something new and fun to Pride Weekend. This is sort of the BOC’s “Coming Out” Party.”

Reno’s first GREEN Pride Parade will begin at West First and Ralston Street and progress east to West Street, concluding at West Street Market. Following the parade there will be a free commUNITY celebration on West Street and at the Mar-ket for the community and families to gather and socialize.

The GREEN Parade will feature no combustion engine vehicles. Parade participants can walk, skip, ride a bike, scooter, pull a wagon, skateboard or ride a horse. Tykes on Trykes will lean the parade instead of the traditional motorcycling Dykes on Bikes.

West Street Market will be home to a sound stage and information booths. Music will be provided by the “Art Car” of Burning Man fame. The event is designed to heighten awareness within the community about the GLBT Community at a free event.

Parade applications are available online at buildourcenter.org and clicking on the Community Parade button. Applications are due by 5pm on July 29.
