No Pride Parade for Pride 2010
Many remember the community uproar when Reno Gay Pride, LLC announced that, due to escalating costs of over $10,000, there would be no Gay Pride Parade in Reno in 2010. In order to gauge community participation, Reno Gay Pride, LLC set up a “Community Commitment” page, in the hopes that the community would “purchase” fifty blocks of parade space for $150.00 each.
The goal was to raise $7,500 by April 10, 2010 in order to ensure that Reno Pride 2010 would have a parade. According to the renogaypride.com, “[i]f the goal of 50 contingent blocks are met, Reno Gay Pride will sponsor the balance of costs for the parade” However, as of April 10, 2010, only three spaces had been sold: one to PFLAG, and two to Reno Gay Pride.
It looks as if 2010 will be another parade-less year for Reno Gay Pride, but the Reno Gay Pride Festival will still be taking place August 14, 2010 at Wingfield Park in downtown Reno, capping off Reno Pride Week. Look for the Pride Guide 2010 in mid July.
